Getting started

Quick start guide

Use this guide to launch your first Sotion site from a Notion page. The fastest path is simple: publish your Notion page to the web, paste that URL into Sotion, choose your site address, and pick how visitors should access it.

Before you start, make sure you have a Notion page ready. Sotion’s setup flow starts with a Notion Page URL, and the page must be set to Publish to web so Sotion can access it.

Create your first site

  1. Open the Notion page you want to publish.

  2. In Notion, click SharePublishPublish to web.

  3. Copy the public page link.

Sotion accepts a Notion page URL as the starting point for setup. If you paste the wrong kind of link, setup will not continue.

  4. Open Sotion and start onboarding.

The setup flow begins with a field labeled Notion Page URL. Paste your Notion link into that field and continue.

  5. Wait while Sotion checks the page.

If the page is available, Sotion moves you to the publishing step. If it cannot access the page, go back to Notion and confirm the page is published to the web.

  6. Enter your Site Name.

This is the name Sotion uses for your new site.

  7. Choose your first Sotion address.

During setup, Sotion asks where the site should be live and gives you a .sotion.site address. This gets your site online quickly so you can test it before making more changes.

  8. Click Create My Site.

  9. Choose an access option in Set up access control.

    You can choose:

    • Public — anyone can view your site

    • Password — visitors enter one shared password

    • Sign Up / Login — visitors create an account or log in

    • Invite Only — only people you invite can access

  10. Click Finish to complete setup.

What to check after setup

After onboarding finishes, open your new site and confirm the page content loads correctly. If you chose an access-control option, test it in a separate browser or private window so you can see the visitor experience.

Your first success is getting the site live on its Sotion address. After that, you can continue with branding, membership setup, and a custom domain.

If setup does not work

The most common setup problem is using a Notion page that Sotion cannot access.

  • If Sotion says the page is not accessible, return to Notion and confirm you used Publish to web.

  • If Sotion says the URL is invalid, make sure you pasted a real Notion page URL.

  • If you are expecting to use a custom domain immediately, finish the first setup flow first. The verified onboarding wizard creates your site on a .sotion.site address before later customization.

What to do next

Once your site is live, you can decide how far to take it. Many teams next review access settings, invite collaborators, or move the site to a custom domain.
