Migration Guide

If you built your site on the original Sotion (v1), this guide walks you through moving it to the new platform (v2). The migration assistant does the heavy lifting: it finds your v1 sites, recreates them on v2, carries your members across, and applies a discount so you keep your current price for six months. Your existing sites stay live the whole time — nothing switches over until you complete the final step.

[!INFO] Sotion v2 is a rebuilt platform: faster sites, a new dashboard, access groups, Stripe-powered paid memberships, integrations, and more. Migration is the one-time move that brings your v1 sites into it.

Who can migrate

You can migrate if:

• You have a Sotion v1 account. The migration assistant looks up your v1 account by email address, so sign in to v2 with the same email you used on v1 (you can double-check the email during the first step).

• Your account hasn't already been migrated. Each v1 account can be migrated once.

Migration is run by the account owner: if you're part of a team on v2, the member with billing permissions starts it, and the migrated sites land in that team's workspace.

To begin, sign in at sotion.so. When we detect a v1 account matching your email, a migration banner appears on your dashboard — click it to open the migration assistant.

Before you start

• Have access to the email address your v1 account uses.

• If any of your sites use a custom domain, make sure you can edit its DNS records — you'll add a couple of records during the migration.

• Set aside 10–15 minutes. You don't have to finish in one sitting: the assistant saves your progress and resumes where you left off.

What gets migrated

For every site on your v1 account, the assistant creates a matching v2 site:

• Your site and its Notion connection — each site comes across with its name and goes live on its own .sotion.site address right away, so you can preview it before anything switches over.

• Custom domains — carried over, and connected during the DNS step.

• Access control — your protection mode maps to its v2 equivalent: public sites stay public, password protection stays password protection, email sign-in stays email sign-in, and member allowlists stay allowlists. A protected v1 site is never migrated as public.

• Members — your full member list comes across, including names and each member's paid status.

• Your subscription — replaced by a v2 plan with a migration discount (details below). Your v1 subscription is cancelled automatically at the end, so you're never billed for both.

A couple of special cases:

• Password-protected sites: if your site's password can't be carried over, the site still migrates fully protected (as a member allowlist) — just set a new password in your v2 site settings afterwards.

• Stripe paywalls: v2 uses Stripe Connect, which works differently from the v1 integration. A paywalled v1 site migrates protected (as a member allowlist, with your paying members' status intact). After migrating, connect your Stripe account in v2 and switch the site back to paid access.

The steps

The migration assistant guides you through seven short steps:

1. Check — Confirm the email of your v1 account. We verify it's eligible for migration.

2. Confirm — Review what's about to happen and start the migration. We fetch your v1 sites, members, and subscription details.

3. Review — See everything we found: your sites, their domains and protection modes, and your current subscription. Nothing has changed yet.

4. Create — Create your new v2 sites, one per v1 site. Each goes live on a .sotion.site preview address immediately.

5. DNS — If any sites use custom domains, we show the exact DNS records to add or update. Sites without custom domains skip straight through. Your old sites remain live until the final step, so there's no rush and no downtime.

6. Subscribe — We recommend a plan (Basic, Starter, Pro, or Scale) matched to your site count and the features you actually use, with your migration discount applied. Accept to start your v2 subscription.

7. Done — Click Complete Migration. This cancels your v1 subscription, deactivates your legacy sites, and switches traffic over: .sotion.site addresses move instantly, and custom domains go live as your DNS changes propagate.

The migration discount

You shouldn't pay more just because you moved, so the migration applies a discount automatically:

• Monthly plans — you keep paying your current v1 rate for 6 months. The discount covers the difference between your v1 price and the new plan's price; after 6 months, the standard rate applies.

• Annual plans — we honor what you've already paid. Your v2 subscription starts with a free period that runs until your original v1 renewal date, so you're never charged twice for the same time. If your v1 term had less than 6 months remaining, a one-time discount on your first v2 invoice covers the difference.

• Already paying more than the new plan costs? Then there's nothing to discount — your new plan is simply cheaper than what you pay today.

Frequently asked

Will my sites go down during migration? No. Your v1 sites keep running until you click Complete Migration at the very end. The switch itself is designed for zero downtime — .sotion.site addresses are re-pointed automatically before the old infrastructure is retired.

Can I pause halfway through? Yes. Your progress is saved after every step, and the assistant resumes exactly where you left off.

What happens to my old subscription? It's cancelled automatically when you complete the migration — you never pay for v1 and v2 at the same time.

Do my members need to do anything? No. Members come across automatically, including their paid status, and sign in to your migrated site the same way they did before.
