Notion Sites or Sotion: which should you use?

Use Notion Sites for a simple public site. Publishing on a notion.site address is free. A custom domain needs a paid Notion plan plus $8 to $10 a month per domain, and Notion Sites can't password-protect pages.

Use Sotion when visitors must sign in or pay, or when you run several branded sites. Sotion adds passwords, email sign-in, per-client access, Stripe paywalls and custom code, and every plan includes a custom domain.

Plans start at $7 a month, and access control starts on Starter at $27 a month.

Small business website

Studios, agencies, and service businesses publish their marketing site, services, and pricing — all editable in Notion.

Blog or newsletter archive

Keep writing in Notion and let Sotion handle publishing, sitemaps, and OpenGraph images. New posts appear instantly.

Course or knowledge hub

Stand up a structured course or help center from a Notion database. Each lesson gets its own URL and SEO metadata.

Branded client portal

Give every client their own private branded space under your domain. Optional password or email gate when you need it.

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about turning a Notion page into a website.

Yes. Write your content in Notion exactly as you normally would, and Sotion turns that page into a fully-branded website with a custom domain, fast global delivery, and SEO controls. No code, no exporting, no static-site build step — every Notion edit shows up on your website immediately.

In Notion: Share → Publish → Publish to web → copy the link. Paste the link into Sotion, and your website is live on a sotion.site subdomain in seconds. From there you can connect a custom domain, customize SEO and branding, and add access controls if you need them.

Yes. Add any domain or subdomain you own and connect it via DNS. Visitors land on yourdomain.com instead of a notion.site URL, and the original notion.site address stays unlisted.

Every site gets a free SSL certificate automatically — both on sotion.site subdomains and on custom domains. Certificates renew on their own, so you never have to think about expiry or HTTPS configuration.

Yes. Sotion gives you clean URLs, custom meta titles and descriptions per page, OpenGraph and Twitter card images, automatic sitemaps, and fast cached delivery from a global edge network. Your Notion content is indexable by Google as a real website, not as a notion.site preview.

Edit in Notion as you always have. Sotion mirrors your page in real time, so changes you make in Notion show up on your website within seconds. There is no separate CMS to learn and no publishing pipeline to manage.

Yes. Inject custom CSS to override fonts, colors, and spacing, and drop in custom JavaScript for analytics, chat widgets, or any third-party script. Sotion runs your CSS and JS alongside the Notion content, so you can ship a fully bespoke design without leaving Notion.

Not entirely: the page has to stay published to the web, because that is how Notion shows pages to anyone outside your workspace — and it means Sotion never needs your Notion login. Its notion.site address is unlisted, and visitors use your website, where your access rules apply. Keep anything that must stay internal in Notion pages you do not publish.

Yes. Add a password, an email sign-in, an invite-only allowlist, or a paid membership to any page. Members log in on your domain and only authenticated visitors see your content. See the Notion Membership Website page for the full breakdown.

Yes. Notion databases — galleries, lists, boards, calendars — render as part of your website with the layout you chose in Notion. Each database row becomes a sub-page on your site with its own URL, ready to share and index.

Notion Sites publishes your page on a notion.site address, or on your own domain with a paid add-on, and it can’t password-protect pages. Sotion adds per-page SEO and social previews, custom CSS and JavaScript, password and email sign-in, per-client access, paid memberships and member management, without changing how you write in Notion.

Basic, at $7 a month, publishes your site on your own domain with a small Made with Sotion badge. Starter, at $27 a month, removes the badge and adds passwords and member sign-in. Every plan starts with a 14-day free trial of every feature, no card needed.
