Can you build a membership website with Notion?

Not with Notion alone. A published Notion page is open to anyone with the link, and Notion can't password-protect it or charge for it.

Sotion adds that layer. It serves your Notion pages on your own domain and lets in only the people you choose: by password, email sign-in, an allowlist or a Stripe payment. You keep writing in Notion, and members see your changes straight away.

Passwords and email sign-in start on Starter at $27 a month, and paid memberships on Pro at $57 a month.

What you can build

One Notion workspace, six different ways to ship it as a real product.

Premium content library

Charge for access to a growing library of guides, templates, and resources. Update once in Notion, deliver everywhere.

Online course

Sell a course built from Notion pages. Drip lessons, gate by membership tier, and track who has access.

Paid newsletter archive

Keep your latest issue free; lock the back-catalog behind a paid membership. Import subscribers from any ESP.

Branded client portal

Give every client their own private, branded space — protected by password or email — under your custom domain.

Internal company docs

Restrict your handbook or wiki to your company email domain. No SSO setup, no engineering work required.

Community knowledge base

Wrap your community wiki in a paid membership or invite-only allowlist. Members log in with email — no Notion account needed.

Five ways to control who sees your content

Pick the right gate for your audience — and switch any time.

Password protection

Pick a single password and share it with anyone who should have access. Perfect for VIP previews, beta cohorts, and simple paywalls.

Manage members without leaving Sotion

A members panel built for real product usage — not a list view bolted onto a Notion plugin.

  • Invite, search, filter, and remove members
  • Export the full list as CSV
  • See live status: active, pending, cancelled
  • Webhooks for sign-ups, sign-ins and member changes
  • REST API access for custom integrations
  • Bulk invite from a CSV upload

Plug Sotion into the rest of your stack

Send member events to the tools you already use, through webhooks and the REST API.

Built to integrate

Sotion sends a webhook when a member signs up or signs in, and when members or access groups change. The REST API reads and updates them. Connect both to Zapier, Make, your CRM, your email tool, Slack or a spreadsheet. Webhooks and the API come with Pro and Scale.

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about building a membership site with Notion.

Sotion sits in front of your Notion content as a secure proxy. Visitors hit your custom domain, Sotion checks whether they have permission to see the page, and only then serves the Notion content. You can require a password, an email signup, an invite-only allowlist, or a paid subscription.

Yes. Connect your own Stripe account, choose a price, and pick the pages it covers. Visitors pay through Stripe Checkout and are signed in straight away. Sotion takes no cut of your sales. Paid memberships are part of the Pro plan.

Stripe. You can sell one-time access or recurring subscriptions, and payouts go directly to your Stripe account. When a subscription is cancelled or goes unpaid, Sotion removes that member's access automatically. Gumroad and Lemon Squeezy are not supported.

Yes. Add a custom domain in Sotion and connect it via DNS. Your members visit yourdomain.com instead of a notion.site URL, and the original notion.site address stays unlisted.

Sotion includes a members admin where you can invite, search, filter, and remove members, see their activity, and export the list as CSV. On Pro and Scale, webhooks report sign-ups, sign-ins and member changes, and the Sotion API reads and updates members.

Yes, on Pro and Scale, through webhooks and the REST API. Sotion sends a webhook when a member signs up or signs in, when you add, change or remove a member, and when access groups change. Zapier, Make and n8n can receive those webhooks and call the API, so you can add members from a CRM or send a welcome email. A native Zapier app is coming soon.

Yes — for the public pages you choose. Sotion gives you clean URLs, custom meta titles and descriptions, OpenGraph images, automatic sitemaps, and fast global delivery. Pages behind a gate are excluded from search engines automatically, so your premium content stays private.

No. Members never see Notion — they sign in with the method you've chosen (password, email, or paid login) and view your content on your custom domain. They don't need a Notion login, account, or workspace.

Roughly two minutes for a basic site. Copy your Notion share link, paste it into Sotion, and your site is live. Adding a custom domain and tightening access rules takes a few extra minutes once your DNS is configured.

Plans start at $7 a month, and every plan starts with a 14-day free trial of every feature, no card needed. Members-only pages start on Starter at $27 a month, and paid memberships on Pro at $57 a month. See the pricing page for every plan.
